I’ve been reviewing the Eight Pillars of a Nutritious Life. What is a Nutritious Life? It’s the philosophy that I subscribe to via Keri Glassman’s “Nutrition School,” the nutrition certification that I hold. This one is SO good. I’m also REALLY good at it! It’s the “Nurture Yourself” Pillar. Let’s dive in. Ready? Keri says:
Treating yourself to something special can have emotional and physical benefits. Simple small indulgences, like a manicure, massage, bubble bath can make you look and feel great. The time that you spend caring for yourself physically can reap huge mental and physical rewards.
So…this may seem simple. You may think you do it, but do? When was the last time that you stole away and did something cool for yourself? The same way that my workouts are non-negotiable and make me a nicer Cassie to be around, my nurturing indulgences fall into the same category. They aren’t as frequent as my daily workouts, but they happen weekly! They also don’t interrupt the flow of the family. I don’t bail out on family time to get a massage. I do light a scented candle and turn down the lights during my evening shower and slather myself with yummy body oil. If the hubs is out of town, I grab a restorative yoga class and a frozen treat to eat while reading magazines. I try to find a little “nurturing time” in the mundane activities that saturate my week. Another thought that I’d add to Keri’s is that of celebrating ourselves. As women, we do A LOT!!!!! Do you ever pat yourself on the back? Do you ever stop and say, “Damn girl! You did THAT!” or do you move on quickly to the next thing on your list? I wrote about the subject this week on THINK’s Blog. Check it out HERE. Acknowledging and celebrating your achievements is another form of nurturing yourself.
Ways to nurture yourself:
- Get to carpool line early and read a book that you’ve been eyeing.
- Get up 30 minutes early once a week to write in a journal.
- Buy yourself a candle, lotion or perfume that smells heavenly and use it!
- Go to the movies…alone.
- Buy a pretty tea cup or coffee cup and use it!
